What a Day!

Yesterday (Friday), the Syverson’s left for the airport in Sarah’s van. Sarah was driving and the seven Syversons were packed and ready to go. The back of the van was loaded with duffel bags, Christmas gifts in more duffel bags, and suitcases. Brehon had the Wii that we bought the boys for Christmas in a special bag on his lap. Their flight was leaving at 5:00 PM and they were on Rt. 95 at 3:30 stopped in traffic.

Suddenly, a loud crash was heard behind them and before they knew it the multiple crash scene included them. They were rear ended by a vehicle that was driving 50 miles an hour and showed no skid or brake marks on the road. Rebekah was in the front passenger seat and did not have her seat belt attached. The impact was so severe that it blew out the entire rear of Sarah’s van and the side windows. Glas s everywhere, injuries in the other cars and the Syverson’s and Sarah were not seriously injured. The police believe that the amount of duffel bags, Christmas gifts (that are now useless, but who cares) protected them from the rear explosion. Sarah was able to call us from the scene and Glenn and I met at the house and flew over there. Rebekah and Sarah were taken to Methodist hospital and Rebekah has a neck injury (a lot of pain). The boys are completely unscathed. Have I mentioned God’s embrace and protection? Wow, what a God we love and serve….Praising our Father is not nearly enough for what could have been.

My friend Karmae got on the phone with Delta Airlines and Delta agreed to move their flight with no penalties…again, need I say, What an answer to prayer??? We stayed at Methodist Hospital until 1:00 AM and everyone is sore today but nothing else. Sarah does not have a car as it was completely totaled but everyone is still intact and the realization of what could have been is utterly amazing.

The police and the tow truck drivers were kind enough to accumulate all of the duffel bags, the Wii, and we got it all into Mike’s Seamen’s van. So many people were helpful, kind and amazed that the injuries were not severe.
